We offer a wide range of counseling services. This includes individual, group, couples and family counseling for children, adolescents and adults. We are a generalist practice, and are equipped to handle most problems. Our referral coordinator can help match you up with the provider who best meets your needs.
Our team is comprised of psychologists, mental health counselors and social workers. All of our providers are fully and independently licensed to practice in the state of Massachusetts. Unlike some practices, we do not use student counselors or trainees.
Below are descriptions of some of the specialties and services we offer. If you don’t find what you are looking for here, please call our referral coordinator to see if we can be of help. If we don’t offer the service ourselves, we may be able to help you find a provider who does.
Child and Adolescent Behavior or Emotional Problems
One of our biggest specialty areas is working with children and adolescents. Whether it relates to stress and anxiety in children or various types of behavior problems, we have a great deal of expertise in this area. We can help your child develop the tools to cope with the problems they are experiencing and help you to help them as well. We also do a great deal of work in helping teens and their parents to improve communication. We use a cognitive behavioral approach. Some of the specific problems we can help with include ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), coping with divorce, mild autistic spectrum disorders, school-related problems, coping with traumatic events, childhood anxiety, and many others.
Anxiety and Depression
We specialize in cognitive behavioral treatment of anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression have three major components. These are physical symptoms, thoughts & feelings, and behaviors. Through a program of data collection and history taking, we explore how each of these three components play a part in your particular case. We take into account what you have tried, what worked, and what didn’t. We then use a series of exercises and educational programs to modify each of these components until you are no longer limited by your anxiety and depression. Extensive research has shown that cognitive/behavioral programs such as ours are highly effective in treating anxiety and depression. If you are motivated enough to stick with it and work at the exercises each day, there is an excellent chance that you can reduce or eliminate debilitating anxiety or depression from your life.
We have considerable experience as relationship counselors. We have worked extensively with a wide range of couples, and can offer assistance with many types of problems that affect couples. These can include communication issues, conflicts over parenting styles or limit setting, conflict over financial issues and budgeting, managing anger, rebuilding a relationship after an affair, etc. We also work with non-traditional couples or any two people who wish to improve their relationship.
We use a wide variety of cognitive, behavioral and psychodynamic techniques to assist adults, adolescents and children who are coping with various life stressors. These can include divorce, financial problems, work or school problems, somatic complaints, relationship issues, etc. We help you look at all aspects of the stress, including the way it effects your body, your thoughts and feelings, the environmental factors as well as the internal factors. We also look at how your own past history is effecting your management of current life stressors. Many of our providers are experienced in mindfulness techniques and can teach you a range of relaxation and stress reduction techniques, and help you learn life-long skills for managing stress in all areas of your life.
